This Year’s First International Cargo Route with Increased Flights
2024-03-13
Recently, Boeing 737, an all-cargo aircraft of Shandong Airlines, successfully took off from Shenzhen Airport to Singapore. This route is the first international cargo route that Shenzhen Airport has increased flights this year, and it also represents Shandong Airlines’ inaugural international route from Shenzhen Airport. The route’s opening will facilitate economic and trade exchanges between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Southeast Asian countries, establishing a good start to stabilize the global cross-border logistics supply chain.
This route has four scheduled flights a week, primarily carrying such goods as e-commerce products, general-trade products, fresh products, and electronics, with cross-border e-commerce goods accounting for over 50% of the total volume. Following the route’s opening, the outbound flights from Shenzhen Airport to Singapore have increased to 17 weekly, with a weekly departure capacity increased to over 130 tons. This increase will facilitate enterprises in South China to expand their businesses in the Southeast Asian market and bolster exchange and trade between Shenzhen and Southeast Asia regions and RCEP countries.
Since the proposal of the Belt and Road initiative in 2013, China has been Singapore’s top trading partner for 11 consecutive years. In 2023, the bilateral trade between China and ASEAN continued to grow. ASEAN has maintained its status as China’s largest trading partner for four consecutive years, while China has been ASEAN’s largest trading partner for numerous years. Up to now, Shenzhen Airport’s international cargo routes have connected nine cities in six ASEAN countries, with destinations in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah, Bangkok, Clark, Manila, Davao, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, etc. Over 90 cargo flights serve the routes between Shenzhen Airport and ASEAN countries every week.
Shandong Airlines was the very first cargo airline introduced by Shenzhen Airport this year, and the opening of its Shenzhen-Singapore cargo route increased the number of airlines operating all-cargo routes at Shenzhen Airport to 24. Being optimistic about the long-term prospects of the air cargo market in Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta, Shandong Airlines will gradually establish a strategic network encompassing Shandong, Xinjiang, and Shenzhen by developing cargo destinations at Shenzhen Airport. It also plans to open all-cargo routes from Shenzhen to Southeast Asian destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Manila, and Jakarta, thus densifying the cargo route network in Southeast Asia.
Since this year, Shenzhen Airport’s cargo business has been growing robustly and steadily. Notably, in the air transport segment, its cross-border e-commerce business growth rate exceeded 60% in the first two months. Moving forward, Shenzhen Airport will continue to actively contribute to the overseas exploration of Shenzhen’s manufacturing and specialty industries by improving its route networks, market expansion, infrastructure, and business innovation; bolster the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce business; and inject ongoing momentum into Shenzhen’s high-quality foreign trade development.
