Regulations on Compensation for Damaged Baggage

1.If the outer packaging of the baggage is intact and the passenger claims that the contents of the baggage are damaged and requests compensation, the carrier or its agent shall not be liable for compensation if the passenger cannot provide relevant evidence that the problem was caused by the carrier.


2. If the checked baggage is totally or partly damaged or lost during transportation, the compensation amount shall not exceed RMB 100 per kilogram. If the value of the baggage is less than RMB 100 per kilogram, compensation shall be based on the actual value. If the value of the checked baggage exceeds RMB 100 per kilogram, the passenger can declare the value and the additional cost on the declared value shall be paid according to the regulations. The declared value shall not exceed the actual value of the baggage, the maximum of which is RMB 8,000 for each passenger. If the baggage is damaged after the consigner declares the value, compensation shall be made according to the declared value.


Passengers can voluntarily purchase insurance for their checked baggage. In the event of damage, compensation shall be made according to the insured amount. If the actual value of the checked baggage is lower than the insured amount, compensation shall be based on the actual value.


Remarks: the specific baggage compensation standards shall be subject to the regulations of the relevant airlines.
