Raised to 480 Tons—Shenzhen Airport’s import of fresh goods via cold chains has tripled in three years
In response to the market demand of fresh product e-commerce and cold chain logistics, Shenzhen Airport has cooperated with the customs in recent years to vigorously develop fresh product cold chain business from various aspects such as route expansion, improved facilities, qualifications, customs clearance, and cargo delivery. Shenzhen Airport’s guarantee capacity for fresh imports via cold chains has been increased from a one-time maximum of 60 tons in 2021 to the current 480 tons, tripled in three years. This not only offers Shenzhen citizens a wider choice of fresh food, but also facilitates Shenzhen’s development into an international consumption hub.
Recently, the second phase of Shenzhen Airport’s new international cargo inbound cold storage was put into use, further significantly improving its condition and capacity to guarantee fresh products via cold chains. This newly opened cold storage is equipped with food storage, chilled storage, industrial frozen product storage and medicine storage, with advanced facilities and energy-saving technology and equipment. It can provide -20°C to 8°C constant temperature storage and all-round guarantee services for all kinds of international inbound cold chain goods.
The second phase of the newly opened airport import cold storage also has a 600-square-meter industrial frozen product warehouse. It further improves the temperature-controlled supply system and categories of Shenzhen Airport, and enables high-quality and efficient logistics support for Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area to optimize the industrial chain and supply chain layout.
In recent years, in terms of developing fresh product cold chain business, Shenzhen Airport has not only improved facility resources and guarantee capabilities, but also actively expanded international cargo routes for fresh cargo transportation. This year only, it has opened five new international freight routes and increased flights for four international freight routes, including three fresh import routes to Davao, Jakarta and Sabah, with inbound flights carrying mainly tropical fruits, Southeast Asian seafood, etc.
It is reported that in order to ensure the freshness of imported chilled goods, Shenzhen Airport cooperated with the customs to optimize inspection services. The full transformation of the old chilled warehouse into a customs inspection area significantly improved the inspection efficiency and guarantee capacity during peak periods, enabling more efficient customs clearance and pick-up services for chilled goods at the airport.
At present, Shenzhen Airport has guarantee qualifications for basically all special cargos including fresh products and cold chain products, and comprehensively improved its capacity to provide all-round services for industries that are suitable for air transport including the fresh product cold chain industry. From January to June this year, Shenzhen Airport International Cargo Centre has guaranteed nearly 9,000 tons of chilled goods, a year-on-year increase of more than six times. After the new cold storage facility is fully operational, the annual transportation volume of chilled goods at Shenzhen Airport International Cargo Centre is expected to reach 20,000 tons.
