Shenzhen Airport Third Runway Clears Final Acceptance
Recently, the expansion project of Shenzhen Airport’s third runway successfully passed the final acceptance inspection, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent test flights, industry acceptance, and official operation within the year.
Earlier this month, flight calibration work for the third runway was successfully completed. Building on this, Shenzhen Airport promptly organized 22 units—including survey, design, construction, supervision, testing, and monitoring agencies—to carry out the final acceptance inspection (first phase) for the third runway expansion project. The Central and Southern Region Supervision Office of the Civil Aviation Engineering Quality Supervision Station provided full-process supervision and guidance.
The main elements of this acceptance inspection included the new third runway, parallel taxiways, taxiways, connecting taxiways, and supporting facilities such as airfield ground lighting, power supply, water supply, and fire rescue systems. The inspection was conducted by five specialized groups focusing on airfield engineering, electromechanical engineering, weak current systems, BIM, and budgeting/archives, which performed comprehensive checks on all project components. During the process, each specialist group listened to work reports from the participating units, conducted on-site inspections of runway smoothness, the reliability of visual navigation systems, and the effectiveness of air defense and firefighting facilities.
At the final acceptance summary meeting, the inspection group unanimously agreed that the first phase of the third runway expansion project had been completed in strict accordance with the contract and construction drawings. The project quality meets current national and industry standards, with complete and valid documentation, and was approved for final acceptance. Attendees also highly commended the project’s quality control standards and the application of new technologies such as BIM.
Since the launch of the third runway project, Shenzhen Airport has adhered to the “Four Projects” development philosophy, advancing key milestones including the main runway connection, activation of airfield lighting, flight calibration, and final acceptance. Moving forward, Shenzhen Airport will treat this acceptance as a new starting point, pursuing the remaining tasks with higher standards and stricter requirements. The airport is committed to overcoming all challenges to ensure the project passes the industry acceptance and becomes operational as scheduled, providing strong support for building a world-class airport and helping Shenzhen accelerate its development into an economically influential global metropolis and a modern international hub.
