At present, China is McDonald’s second largest market in the world, the largest franchise market outside the United States, and the fastest-growing market in the world. In July 2017, McDonald’s, CITIC, CITIC Capital and Carlyle Group jointly reached a business operation strategy to co-operate and manage McDonald’s business in Chinese mainland and Hong Kong. In 2020, McDonald’s was ranked ninth in BrandZ, the list of the world’s most valuable brands, leading the worldwide catering brands. In 2019, McDonald’s served more than 1 billion customers in China. As of March 2020, there had been more than 3,500 McDonald’s restaurants in Chinese mainland with more than 180,000 employees. McDonald’s, Shenzhen is responsible for managing more than 400 McDonald’s restaurants in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Huizhou and some cities in western Guangdong, with more than 17,000 employees.
